About Dr. Laura Murphy

Laura T. Murphy is Professor of Human Rights at Sheffield Hallam University, a fellow at the Harvard Carr-Ryan Centre for Human Rights, and Senior Associate in the Human Rights Initiative at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Under the Biden Administration, she served as a senior policy advisor at the Department of Homeland Security, leading the department's implementation of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act and advising on forced labour broadly.

She is the author of four books on forced labour and modern slavery, as well as numerous academic articles and white papers. Her work on forced labour in the Uyghur Region has traced the supply chains of goods made in the region across a wide range of industries. She is on the advisory board of Exiger and consults with organizations, law firms, industry associations, government agencies, and investment firms on forced labour in supply chains and international forced labour import bans.
